Project Wonderful has a Tag Cloud!

Today, Project Wonderful added a new "Tag Cloud" page, to let you see the most popular tags.
You can see it in action at the Project Wonderful Tag Cloud page.
This is an interesting new development that could make searching a fair bit easier - and has the added bonus of showing socially interesting data.
As we can see from the cloud, "Comics", "Humor" and "Wecomic" are the most popular tags right now, by a long shot. Straight away, we can get some interesting and unusual data by comparing the size of "Humor" to "Humour," giving us some idea of how many British (and possibly Canadian?) publishers are in the system already.

I guess this shows that they really need to give some guidance about whether we should be using plurals or singular nouns...

Agreed.

By the way, does anybody know if the search feature picks up partial words too?  I mean, if I enter "comic", will I get entries with tagwords "comic", "comics", "webcomic" and "webcomics" or only those with "comic"?

Also, it shows that PW still has to attract attention from other types of sites...  Can it survive if it remains confined to the webcomic universe?

I've been searching for a tag cloud that will work in a block for GeekLog. Will this creation of yours scale down to, say, the top 25 words and fit in a block? Can you guide me to some code?

Hey, Angela.
GeekLog doesn't have any tagging ability that I know of. I've briefly considered using a universal tagging system where you'd simply enter "tag!keyword" into the body of the article, and then create a new search box that would search for tags by silently adding tag! in front of any strings that were entered.
For example, if I wanted to tag this article as cool, I'd write tag!cool in the body of the article itself. Likewise, if a user wanted to tag it as boring, they would write tag!boring in the comments. You could then, I suppose, create a button that would search for every instance of tag! and then output the results in a cloudy sorta way.
You could extend this principle to the entirity of the comment-enabled Internet, and use Google to search for sites tagged with, say, tag!project_wonderful.
But then, this is a horribly messy way of going about it. :)
